OK, well, Altitude is down, temperature is down, what's going on? I think we lost some helium at the high altitude, but maybe it's just a swirling air mass.

  2. Ah ha! We needed Mylar to build pressure to limit the altitude. Weather balloons will expand forever and eventually freeze and burst.

    Plus, we can get mylar quick :)

  3. it's cold in wisconsin, of course the altitude is down corresponding to the ambient air temp. aloft. bouyancy is all about displacement and density. did you temperature test it in a freezer?

  4. Other samples have done time in the freezer and the oven. the main concern is the battery temperature going too low.

  5. Hey Andreas.... well.... the balloon shrinks in the cold (unless it's under pressure), but the density of the air around it gets more dense too.

    The "plan" was to get to 12,000 feet and level out. I think we lost air at 16K feet.

    I wouldn't be surprised to see it "bounce" back up during the day, but for now it's stuck in a cornfield. :(
